I haven't written a novel in 3 months, but I know it's possible. Doesn't Stephen King say that too? We always take him as an example, but who else to take? When I wrote the famous story UDPD, the idea for this article came to me, because I realized that if I had written my novel the way I wrote that story (except for gaps), it would have been finished long ago by now. Of course not all novels can be written in 3 months. Let's take works like The Lord of the Rings or many other monumental novels. Is it possible to write any novel in 3 months? Certainly not. An accurate prewriting phase We have spoken extensively about the prescription . It is a fundamental phase , because it allows us to write the story in complete tranquility and not like I did 30 years ago, who took a sheet of paper, wrote the title on it and started writing my novel in one go. And in fact I didn't finish any of them at that time, except a diary-shaped piece of crap that can't be revised even if you rewrite it from scratch. The prewriting phase clarifies our ideas and provides us with guidelines for writing the story.
The documentation would also be included in the prescription, but I prefer to set it aside. To be picky, however, documentation is also prewriting , because it is a step to be taken before writing, even if in some Special Data cases the documentation can last for the entire novel. Precise documentation It's an interesting and sometimes long job. Obviously it depends on what we have to write. Documentation gives us the right information to be able to write our novel, because the saying "write about what you know" always applies. The writer creates, certainly, but nothing is created by himself: to create he needs to know the material . For my science fiction novel I'm researching alternative realities, the history of 17th century China and the current American era. Plus other information that I will need as I go along. Writing without documenting means wasting a huge amount of time, in my opinion. Not only that, there is the risk of having to rewrite parts from scratch or distort the entire plot to repair documentation errors.
Good concentration To write you need to be concentrated. I saw it when I decided to finish the story UDPD - even if I abandon it, however this story has served me in various ways, even to write 3 posts. How to write concentrated? Increasing productivity in writing : with just a few tricks you can work better and above all more effectively. The determination that must not be missing When I discovered the first gaps in my story, I started studying how to fix the story. I then prepared a list of elements to modify and add and started writing. I also decided that I wanted to finish that story . I liked the story, I wanted to publish it and this pushed me to continue. We cannot finish a novel if we lack the determination to finish it. The sessions of 2000 words a day That's not a few 2000 words. Between blog articles, client articles and story pieces, I end up writing a lot more, even if it doesn't happen every day. But I'm talking about 2000 words of fiction , which is something different. I always say this: it takes me much less time to write a 700 word post than to produce 700 words of fiction. Maybe it's just like this for me, but this is my situation. 2000 words of fiction takes a lot of effort. But in the end I managed to finish my story by writing over 6000 words in the last 3 days, keeping to a minimum of 2000 a day .
